New Dental Product: Heron IOS Intraoral Scanner from 3DISC

3DISC recently released the Heron IOS intraoral scanner.

The sleek, hand-held scanner is ergonomically designed and easy to use, according to a press release. It is comprised of a small, lightweight hand and mouth piece.

The open architecture system is compatible with most dental CAD systems and has STL and PLY output formats. Live video feed and guidance tools make it easy to perform scans of the full dental arch.

The intuitive scanner features a rotating tip that provides the optimal angle for scanning.

The system’s precision, ease of use and productivity facilitates automation in the dentist’s workflow and improves communication with the lab. The scanner comes with common features and creates common restorations, keeping the price point down.

The optical impression system creates digital 3D models for dental restorations. It records the tooth morphology, analog impressions, or gypsum models for use in CAD/CAM for dental restorative prosthetic devices. A ‘cradle’ holds the scanner when not in use, and each unit comes with order management software for PCs, as well as lab integration with exocad DentalCAD.

The scanner software is set up to help create restorations such as crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays and veneers. It also offers color capture, shade matching and a built-in heater to prevent fogging.

The new scanner will be available this year, with shipments expected to begin in the fourth quarter.
