3Shape recently introduced 3Shape Smile Design and 3Shape Scan Bodies.
3Shape Smile Design makes it easy to quickly create new smiles for patients, according to a press release. The planning tool works by layering the design of proposed restorations on 2D patient photos, making digital smile design (DSD) less cumbersome. The patient, doctor and lab technician work as a team to evaluate esthetics directly from the photo, creating a workflow that involves the patient from the beginning.
Proposed smile designs can then be brought into the 3Shape Dental System software. Using the RealView engine, the 2D image is merged with 3D digital impressions taken from, for example, the TRIOS intraoral scanner to create esthetic and functional designs. There’s also an option to produce a mockup of the final restoration. Once approved, the restoration is made from the same files.
The 3Shape Scan Bodies are designed to make digital implant scanning easier. The durable titanium scan bodies make it possible to capture accurate implant positions. They’re available for all major implant systems and feature a unique ID code that identifies the implant system and connection. The scan bodies can be used with both intraoral and lab scanners.
