A new integrated CAD/CAM workflow allows dental labs or clinicians using 3Shape’s Dental System CAD software to import digital impressions from Planmeca’s PlanScan Intraoral Scanner and export designs for production on the Planmeca PlanMill 40 milling machine.
The integrated workflow connecting the two open-architecture CAD/CAM systems allows the 3Shape software to accept Planmeca digital impressions including both the STL digital impression file as well as case information such as margin lines marked by the dentists and the case order form, according to a press release. This integration allows the digital impressions to be used for cases produced on a range of mills, as well as using the 3Shape CAD software designs from scans captured on a range of digital impression systems for production on the Planmeca milling system.
In the press release both companies said the integrations fits with their open-architecture models and will allow clinicians and dental labs to work with new indications and materials while continuing to use systems they are familiar with.
