Align Technology Will Make $275,000 Available in Research Awards Program for 2013

For the fourth consecutive year, Align Technology will expand its Align Research Award Program which provides grants to North American and international universities for the study of orthodontic aligner therapies. This year the program will also expand to include funding for research on intraoral scanners.

The 2013 awards will total $275,000 and include 4 one-year awards of $25,000 for clear aligner therapy research at North American universities, 6 one-year awards of $25,000 for clear aligner therapy at international universities and 5 one-year awards of $5,000 for intraoral scanner research at universities worldwide, according to a press release. Each of the scanner awards will also include a one year loan of an iTero scanner or a credit of $5,000 toward the purchase of an iTero scanner.

Full- and part-time faculty working on orthodontic or scientific research at universities where Invisalign is available are eligible to apply for clear aligner research awards. Scanner research awards are available to full- and part-time faculty conducting research in orthodontics or general dentistry in countries where the iTero scanner is currently sold. All award applications are reviewed by an independent academic committee. The committee’s recommendations are sent to Align Technology for final selection, according to the release.

More details on the award program along with instructions and application forms are available at www.aligntechinstitute.com/researchawards (for North American applicants) and www.aligntechinstitute.com/internationalresearch (for international applicants). Research proposals and completed applications must be received by March 1, 2013. Award recipients will be notified by May 10, 2013.
