The Extended Straight Attachment (ESA) is a uniquely designed disposable prophy angle (DPA) that attaches directly to Star Titan, Midwest Shorty, and Midwest Rhino low-speed air motors. It eliminates the need for a metallic straight nose cone attachment and purportedly reduces weight by 50% over traditional prophy angles. ESA is said to provide better balance and reduced vibration for a smoother, quieter running prophy angle. Additionally it features an ergonomically designed non-slip grip. ESA is available in soft cup, firm cup, tapered brush, and soft cup non-latex models.

By attaching directly onto the low-speed motor it eliminates the need for metallic straight nose cone attachments. This saves time, enhances infection control, and eliminates maintenance and sterilization requirements. Clinical users lauded its design and overall function. They valued the prophy cups ability to remove plaque and stain while providing excellent flexibility and durability during a procedure. Spatter and hemorrhage were reported to be comparable to other DPA’s on the market and there were no reports of patient sensitivity. It is also available in latex-free models for patients with allergies.
At present the ESA is only available for Star Titan, Midwest Shorty, and Midwest Rhino low speed motors. Individual packs do not contain lot numbers, which could make tracking difficult if necessary.
