Identafi 3000 ultra Oral Cancer Screening System from Trimira LLC Identafi 3000 ultra Oral Cancer Screening System
Trimira LLC

The Identafi™ 3000 ultra is an upgraded version of the original small, cordless, handheld oral cancer screening device. The ultra features enhancements such as nickel-plating, double the auto-fluorescent power, and both hardware and software upgrades. The device uses a three-wavelength optical illumination and visualization system to allow dental professionals to catch early cancers not visible to the naked eye.

The Identafi 3000 ultra features the same proprietary, patented multi-spectral light wavelengths as the popular Identafi 3000. A study published in the May 2009 issue of Cancer Prevention Research found that the excitation wavelength delivered by the Identafi 3000 (and Identafi 3000 ultra) is optimal for discriminating between neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions. New diodes deliver twice the auto-fluorescent power to further improve visualization.

The Identafi 3000 ultra uses three different wavelengths of light to excite oral tissue in distinct and unique ways. Biochemical changes can be observed with fluorescence, while morphological changes can be observed with reflectance. This multiple wavelength technology identifies abnormal tissue with more accuracy than a single color wavelength.

Nickel plating has been added to the Identafi 3000 ultra to boost electrical conductivity, improve durability, and provide a smoother feel. Trimira has also made hardware and software upgrades to maximize the device’s performance.

Expasyl Gingival Retraction Paste in Strawberry Flavor from Kerr Corporation Expasyl Gingival Retraction Paste in Strawberry Flavor
Kerr Corporation

Expasyl gingival retraction paste now comes in strawberry flavor. This new version of Expasyl offers the same tissue management qualities—excellent hemostasis and fast, atraumatic gingival retraction. A new intro kit includes the lightweight ergonomic gun, new curved tips, and 60% more material than the original.

Expasyl simultaneously stops bleeding and expands the sulcus to enable impression material to accurately capture crisp margins for great-fitting restorations. Expasyl significantly cuts retraction time, is less traumatic to surrounding tissue, and the composition of the material prevents bleeding and crevicular fluid from obscuring the detail of an impression.

It contains a 15% concentration of aluminum chloride which constricts blood vessels and shrinks epithelial tissue, preventing residual bleeding and separating soft tissue from the dentition. This results in an open, dry sulcus. These same clinical benefits are also useful in final cementation of indirect restorations or any restorative procedure that occurs near or below the gumline.

Icon Incipient Caries Treatment from DMG America Icon Incipient Caries Treatment
DMG America

Developed to treat incipient caries, Icon is a caries infiltrant that incorporates micro-invasive technology to fill, reinforce, and stabilize demineralized enamel without drilling or sacrificing healthy tooth structure.

Bridging the gap between prevention (fluoride therapy) and caries restoration, Icon can be used to treat smooth surface and proximal carious lesions up to the first third of dentin (D-1). In a single patient visit, Icon can arrest the progression of early enamel lesions and remove white spot lesions.

Icon offers a simple alternative to the “wait and see” approach, enabling immediate treatment without unnecessary loss of healthy tooth structure. Icon prevents lesion progression and increases life expectancy for the tooth. Icon also provides a highly esthetic alternative to microabrasion and other restorative treatments for cariogenic white spot lesions; white spot lesions infiltrated by Icon take on the appearance of the surrounding healthy enamel.

Use of Icon is described as simple and user-friendly: After isolating the tooth with rubber dam and placing wedges to separate the teeth, the tooth surface is prepared with a 15% HCL gel to open the pore system of the lesion body. Next, the surface is rinsed, dried with ethanol, and further dried with air. The Icon Infiltrant resin, which has a high penetration coefficient, is applied onto the lesion, excess material is removed, and the material is light cured. The manufacturer recommends applying a second layer of the infiltrant, followed by additional light curing.

Icon will be available in the US by September 2009 in Proximal and Smooth Surface kits. The Icon kits provide everything necessary for treatment except the rubber dam, including specially designed dental wedges, patented perforated applicator tips for the materials, individual syringes filled with Icon-Etch, Icon-Dry (ethanol), Icon-Infiltrant, and both written and diagrammatic instructions. All syringes come in a special screw-type applicator to ensure the materials are gently and slowly extruded onto the tooth.

Icon Proximal is available in a Mini-kit with two treatment units, or a package of seven units. Each proximal treatment unit contains enough material for two proximal lesions. The Icon Smooth Surface Mini-kit includes two treatment units and is also available in packages of seven units, enough material for two or three smooth surface lesions per unit.

VISTAPure Distilled-Quality Water System from Pelton & Crane VISTAPure Distilled-Quality Water System
Pelton & Crane

The VistaPure system produces two grades of water — distilled-quality water for autoclaves and ultra filtered non-corrosive water for bottles used with dental delivery systems.

The first stage is a prefilter that removes sediment, chlorine, chloramines, trihalomethanes and other contaminants by physical filtration, absorption and adsorption.

Next is the hyper filtration stage where pressure forces the water through a semi permeable membrane, removing contaminants at the molecular level. Impurities such as nitrates, sulfates, heavy metals, sodium, calcium and approximately 95% of other water contaminants are removed and rinsed away from the membrane and down the drain.

The water is then sent to a cartridge that contains both cationic and anionic resins for removing any remaining contaminants by a deionization process.

The final stage is a polishing filter. The finished water is then sent to a 2.7 gallon storage reservoir where it is easily dispensed for use.

The system is a standard feature of Solaris Sterilzation Centers.

Master 3DS Cone Beam Imaging System from E-WOO Technology USA Inc. Master 3DS Cone Beam Imaging System
E-WOO Technology USA Inc.

Designed for use in both private practice and institutional dental care facilities, the Master 3DS cone beam imaging system offers a new GPU solution--3D reconstruction time improved to less than 35 seconds with even less 3D CT scan time: 15 seconds for normal and 24 seconds for high def.

The field-of-view (FOV) selection provision enables the user to select the optimum FOV size (20x19/20x15 cm, 16x10 cm, 16 x 7 cm) and limits the radiation dosage to only the necessary level for examination contained to the region of interest. For example, the FOV size of 20 x 19cm captures a comprehensive 3D view of the entire oral and maxillofacial anatomy including the TMJ, sinus, and airways on a single 360 degree scan whereas the FOV of 16 x 7cm would capture both mandibular condyle and upper and lower occlusion area of oral anatomy.

EzImplant, the dynamic and efficient 3D image solution, offers comprehensive information for precise assessments, diagnosis, and treatment plans by using the auxiliary functions such as measuring, canal tracing, cross-sectional viewing and implant simulation.

The Master 3D series provides a selection of voxel sizes which improves the overall image resolution. The smaller voxel size (0.164mm) offers the highest image quality while normal voxel sizes (0.3, 0.4mm) are suitable for diagnostic images with less reconstruction time and smaller file size.

With the new Master 3DS, there are 3 types of patient positioning – standing, seated (optional chair), and wheel-chair-confined patient accessibility.

Vanish XT Varnish from 3M™ ESPE™ Vanish XT Varnish
3M™ ESPE™

Vanish™ XT Extended Contact Varnish is a site-specific, light-cured durable coating that provides an immediate layer of protection to relieve dentinal hypersensitivity. It is particularly helpful for protecting exposed, sensitive root surfaces, especially newly cleaned surfaces following scaling & root planing.

The varnish remains on the tooth for six months or longer and is moisture tolerant, eliminating the need to dry or pre-treat the root surface. Its use requires no rubber dam. Offering fluoride, calcium and phosphate release, the resin-modified glass ionomer formulation significantly reduces dentin permeability by occluding dentinal tubules in-office for immediate pain relief. Vanish XT also protects the tooth surface from acid attack.

In vitro tests conducted with Vanish XT demonstrate that the coating:

• Creates a barrier against demineralization and acid erosion
• Provides protection beyond the coating
• Helps repair demineralized enamel adjacent to the coating by fluoride toothpaste

Panasil Initial Contact Impression Material
Kettenbach LP

Because of its unique initial hydrophilicity, Panasil® initial contact “wash” impression materials can immediately overcome any remaining moisture in the mouth, resulting in an exact impression every time, even in situations with a deep sulcus or a moist environment. Panasil initial contact is highly thixotropic, with outstanding flow properties and a short intra-oral setting time. Because of its outstanding flow properties, Panasil® initial contact will enter narrow gaps and does not slump or drip off the tooth into the oral cavity.

Panasil® initial contact is available in three viscosities – X-light (very low viscosity), light (low viscosity) and regular (medium viscosity). Panasil® initial contact X-light flows evenly into extremely tight crevices and, during two-step putty-wash impressions, forms only a thin layer on the preliminary impression material. The even higher thixotropy of Panasil® initial contact light is often used for one-step impression techniques. All three viscosities will be available in a fast set.

All three Panasil® initial contact viscosities have a total working time of 1 minute, 30 seconds and an intra-oral setting time of 2 minutes, 30 seconds. When the fast set is introduced, it will shave 30 seconds off both the total working and the intra-oral setting times. All materials are available in the following delivery units: 2 × 50 mL with 12 mixing tips and 12 × 50 mL with 72 mixing tips.

3M™ ESPE™

Available for professional dispensing only, Clinpro 5000 1.1% Sodium Fluoride Anti-Cavity Toothpaste contains a tri-calcium phosphate ingredient; it contains fluoride as well as calcium and phosphate, which are components naturally found in saliva. As the toothpaste comes in contact with saliva during brushing, the barrier breaks down and makes the calcium, phosphate and fluoride readily available to the tooth. The tooth naturally absorbs these components, helping to prevent the initiation and further progression of demineralization and allowing remineralization to occur.

The toothpaste offers a wide range of benefits:

  • Strengthens teeth better than leading brands
  • Reverses white spots better than leading brands
  • Delivers more fluoride to the tooth than other tested leading brands
  • Contains 1.1% NaF (5000 ppm fluoride ion)

ADSTRA Systems, Inc.

ADSTRA Charting Treatment Planning and Charting Software is now available as a stand-alone, after more than six years of being available only as a module (add-on) of ADSTRA’s practice management software. The Charting program integrates seamlessly with ADSTRA CLAIMS PLUS™ free management software program, which allows users to submit billing information electronically to Emdeon (formerly WebMD).

The comprehensive easy-to-use software program allows users to create and manage odontograms. Dental charts can be created for examinations, for completed treatment, and for planned treatment. There are four views of the chart: maxillary, mandibular, buccal, and palatal-lingual. The charting tools are grouped by type: general, periodontal, restorative, and endodontic. Multiple charts can be opened at the same time and pockets and recessions are represented graphically. A number of reports—or the whole chart as it’s viewed—can be printed.

ADSTRA Charting offers an array of tools for charting tooth conditions such as missing teeth, un-erupted teeth, partially erupted teeth, tooth rotation, impacted teeth, drifted, tilted, extruded, submerged, decalcification, hypercalcification, loose contact, open contact, root canal treatment, apical area, retrograde filling, pins, posts, root caries, complete crown, 3/4 crown, extraction needed, sealants, veneers, cavities, fillings, and many more. Users can set their own preferences for general chart, periodontal chart, restoration materials, and the connection between procedures and tools. Users can also define exam templates and incorporate them into the patient’s chart. Extra-oral examination and occlusal examination are built-in features.

The program also includes the ability to input, store, and review measurements for periodontal readings. Users can measure and enter gingival recession and pocket depths, and chart bleeding, suppuration, furcation, blunted papilla, cratered papilla, erosion, attrition, abrasion, and mobility. For charting plaque, a special surface map appears. Users can compare exams for values or changes in pockets or recessions, and calculate indices.

    Accupal Inc.

ACCUPAL is a cordless, compact, handheld device that effectively pre-conditions the oral tissue to receive virtually pain-free palatal or other intraoral dental injections.

ACCUPAL incorporates four known and proven pain-reducing theories into one economical, user-friendly device:

    1. ACCUPAL incorporates the "Pain Gate" theory to energize the dental tissue in and around the site to be punctured by the needle.
    2. ACCUPAL's ultrasonic tissue stimulation disrupts the tissue injection site to allow standard topical gel to pre-condition the injection site, thus further reducing the needle’s pain-producing effects.
    3. ACCUPAL vibrates the needle at the injection site. The pain-reducing effects of direct needle vibration are well documented as having a positive effect on injection comfort.
    4. ACCUPAL ensures that the clinician inserts the needle bevel at its narrowest point, which provides the most minimally invasive path possible and reduced tissue damage to deliver a consistently comfortable palatal injection.

The economical ACCUPAL is available online at www.accupal.com. The bluephase G2 cordless high-performance polymerization light is engineered to offer limitless LED curing. Suitable for all clinical situations, the LED unit can be used for the fast polymerization of all light-curing dental materials in the wavelength range of 380 nm to 515 nm.

Like halogen lights, the bluephase G2 achieves a broad light spectrum of 380 nm to 515 nm. With its proprietary Polywave LED, the bluephase G2 light is suitable for all light initiators and, therefore, its use is unrestricted.

Incorporating a virtually noiseless built-in cooling fan, the bluephase G2 light can be used for an unlimited period of time to cure all indications. For example, the bluephase G2 can be used for extensive cementation procedures involving multi-unit restorations without going into automatic shutdown to cool.

The light's cordless design--based on state-of-the-art, 60-minute capacity lithium polymer batteries--offers the ultimate in mobility. The light can be used wherever it is needed due to the Click & Cure function: the handpiece can be connected with the power cord of the charging base to enable continuous operation, even if the battery power runs out.

Other features of the bluephae G2 include high light intensity of 1,200 mW/cm2 for reduced curing times starting from 10 seconds, a 10-mm light probe for a larger curing area, and three available modes for maximum, deep, and stress-reduced polymerization. The unit also has seamless housing for optimum infection control, as well as an OLED color display for brilliant readout quality. Further, the innovative movement sensor ensures immediate readiness for operation.

Intended for professional chairside use, Power Swabs® are convenient and versatile "liquid-filled" swabs designed to thoroughly clean and whiten teeth by removing tough, deep-seated enamel stains without traditional peroxide bleaches or abrasives. This product also dramatically reduces dentinal hypersensitivity associated with bleaching by employing 'wetting agents' that help to prevent 'dehydration-related' dental pain that is associated with many professional power whitening procedures.

The swabs feature "Foaming Action Cleaning Technology" FACT™ Technology which combines solvents, wetting agents, detergents, stain softeners and effervescents. Power Swabs® have shown the ability in independent clinical trials to dramatically reduce transient dentinal hypersensitivity and to also significantly enhance the results of many cosmetic dentistry procedures, such as vital tooth bleaching.

Because of their deep cleaning ability, Power Swabs® reduce the time needed for other whitening products to be effective.

Power Swabs™ are not the same as the “activator” swabs that are supplied with bleaching kits. They have a stain removal (cleaning) function, they are physiological pH 6.1 and they re-hydrate enamel to reduce sensitivity

Developed specifically for helping perform pre-orthodontic-treatment interproximal reduction, the Spee Slenderizer System enhances patient safety as well as chairside productivity. Freedom-Lock Rapid Palatal Expander from Accutech Orthodontic Lab Freedom-Lock Rapid Palatal Expander
    Accutech Orthodontic Lab

Accutech Orthodontic Lab’s Freedom-Lock™ rapid palatal expander (RPE) can be integrated into multiple types of appliances.
Its delivers a rigid and secure appliance, with the clinical advantage of quick and easy removal or reinsertion any time during treatment. Any type of screw that would be used for a fixed RPE can be used with the Freedom-Lock™ system. Its hinged mechanism fills the buccal tube with a snug fit but easily slides in and out, and it has a gentle curve that crosses the occlusal surface. The hinge mechanism locks in--the custom designed “flat” locking clasp ensures retention. Its design delivers a snap-tight lock for insertion and easy release flexibility for quick removal.
    Quick and Easy Insertion
Freedom-Lock™ delivers superior expansion – it pushes from the lingual and pulls from the buccal simultaneously; and delivery is simple. After the bands are cemented, the RPE snaps right in. It is not soldered to the bands.
    Removal and Re-insertion Advantages
The Freedom-Lock™ comes out, and the bands stay on the teeth therefore adjustments can be easily made outside the mouth. Springs and clasps can be added as needed, and larger screws can be inserted with no relapse or new bands.
    Hygiene and Cost Savings
A patient’s oral hygiene is greatly improved because the Freedom-Lock™ can be completely removed at each appointment for a thorough cleaning. When the expansion is complete, the appliance reduces chair time and band usage. The appliance is removed and the bands can remain for continued treatment.
