Occlusal Clearance Devices

Proper reduction is a key part of any dental preparation in order to make sure the prep is properly sized and shaped for the restorative material of choice. While some clinicians are satisfied with eyeballing the amount of reduction, occlusal clearance devices are available to provide a greater degree of certainty. These small instruments are designed to be inserted into the occlusal surface of the prep in order to determine if the proper amount of reduction has been completed. These devices are available in a variety of thicknesses, or in a graduated tab in order to measure the amount of occlusal space that has been created. Using an occlusal clearance device can eliminate guesswork and make restorative dentistry more precise.
