Surgical Dressing and Hemostatic Materials

Used during oral surgery procedures to control bleeding and protect wound beds and surgical sites, surgical dressings and hemostatic materials are available in a range of compositions. Surgical plugs, tapes, powders, strips and sponges can all be applied to the wound site to provide structure during healing. Many of these surgical dressing products have been coated or treated with hemostatic materials to help control bleeding while promoting healing. While some of these products are resorbable and will safely degrade on their own, non-resorbable materials need to be removed following healing so it is important to note which type of material you are using.
