Dental surgical handpieces and systems include both electric handpieces and air driven handpieces and their corresponding attachments that enable customization. Air driven handpieces offer higher RPMs then their electric handpiece counterparts but often are louder and can become hotter. A large benefit of electric surgical handpieces is their ability to deliver a high amount of torque through a wide range of RPMs. Electric surgical handpieces also last longer than air driven surgical handpieces. Dental surgical handpieces should be fully autoclavable, and be sure to look into the support and service provided by the vendor you choose.
