Digital Smile Design and Formlabs Dental Announce Partnership

Digital Smile Design (DSD) and Formlabs Dental recently announced an official partnership.

DSD has supported Formlabs for years, using the company’s 3D printers in the DSD Lab since Form 2 was released, according to a press release. The collaboration is part of DSD’s goal to partner with key organizations that share the same values, to make dentists’ lives easier with technology and to advance the profession.

“Digital transformation in dentistry is spreading rapidly and Digital Smile Design company is leading the way with their use of Formlabs 3D printing,” said Guillaume Bailliard, president of the Healthcare division of Formlabs, according to the release. “To continue industry adoption, education is critical and we’re thrilled to collaborate with Dr. Christian Coachman and the DSD to develop robust digital workflow solutions and curricula that will bolster efficiency and patient treatment outcomes that 3D printing provides in dentistry.”

DSD Lab has five Form 3B printers and that number will continue to grow. Formlabs offers hardware and software solutions, biocompatible workflow options, a dental service plan, and the education platform, Dental Academy.

The companies plan to pursue opportunities that better serve both clinicians and patients, with a schedule of dedicated projects spanning dental education initiatives and research and development already in production.

“With this new collaboration, we look forward to continuing to make printing technology commonplace in dental clinics and advancing the printing of more advanced appliances, based on new resins,” said George Cabanas, DSD research and development manager, according to the release. “All of this will help dentists to provide even better and more precise services for their patients.”
