Pearl Receives Patent for AI Technology

The United States Patent Office recently granted Pearl a patent for its AI dental radiology technology.

The technology was developed to create an ergonomic user experience for Second Opinion, the company’s patient-facing assistive radiology solution, according to a press release. The patent covers the technological system underpinning the user interface (UI).

AI-detected pathologies, restorations and other dental conditions are displayed to clinicians and patients via Second Opinion. The machine learning modules that create an accurate radiologic assessment express their findings on the nature and location of any features detected as a raw data stream. The patented system then takes that data and translates it into a user-friendly visual representation. That means when a patient’s x-ray is displayed on the UI, the device circumscribes the location of any detection within a labeled bounding shape overlay, drawing attention to it.

Second Opinion is the company’s first AI solution for patient-facing clinical use. It can detect and measure a variety of pathologies, restorations and natural anatomy in dental x-rays. The device was developed to ensure the reliability of clinicians’ radiologic evaluations. It also helps make patients more confident in their diagnosis.
