Through the new Scan to Model feature, dental professionals can now turn 3D intraoral scans into printable models directly in PreForm software from Formlabs.
Scan to Model can be used as an entry point into digital workflows; users don’t need experience with digital dental design software, according to a press release. This shortens the learning curve and makes it easy for practitioners to digitize their workflows.
To create diagnostic, formed appliance and fit check models, users scan a patient’s teeth with a 3D intraoral scanner, upload the raw model into the Scan to Model tool, and then print from a Formlabs 3D printer. The entire process can be completed in less than an hour.
This new feature reduces the effort required to turn a 3D intraoral scan into a printed model and shortens the turnaround time for models and retainers, enabling same-day delivery. With the tool, clinicians also need fewer software programs to perform simple model preparation.
