Align Technology recently announced a collaboration with Digital Smile Design (DSD) to provide a streamlined workflow of the Invisalign system with the DSD concept and protocols.
The workflow will enable dentists to easily incorporate tooth alignment and restorative techniques by framing the custom digital treatment plan within the patient’s facial photos for comprehensive interdisciplinary dental care, according to a press release.
The DSD concept combines advanced restorative and orthodontic dentistry based on an analysis of the patient’s facial and dental proportions, along with patient communication tools and techniques to create beautiful smiles. DSD’s smile design protocols combined with Invisalign clear aligners make it possible to improve pre-restorative tooth positions and/or tooth alignment before starting restorative treatment. This results in a less invasive approach that preserves as much tooth structure as possible.
The collaborative workflow is expected to be available some time in 2017.
