New Dental Product: ViziLite PRO Oral Lesion Screening System from DenMat

DenMat recently released the ViziLite PRO Oral Lesion Screening System, which is designed to quickly and effectively detect epithelial dysplasia, even in its earliest stages.

The ViziLite PRO oral cancer screening device features light-based fluorescence and operates within the wavelength for optimal discrimination of oral lesions, according to a press release.

Fluorescence visualization from the system provides new information that is fundamentally different from what clinicians see when they look at reflected light from a white, chemiluminescent or other light source.

Screening with the ViziLite Pro, which adds about one minute to the conventional head and neck exam, is easy and painless for patients. Once the device is activated, five powerful shortwave, violet output LEDS generate biofluorescence and enhance visualization in the oral cavity, without the need to dim operatory lights. Abnormal tissues appear as dark areas among the bright fluorescence of surrounding healthy tissue.

An optical viewing fitter enhances visualization and improves contrast between healthy and abnormal tissue. Lack of fluorescence reveals damaged or abnormal cells before they likely would have been noticed using a normal clinical exam light.

Other features include a cordless, ergonomic handle and lightweight aluminum housing that serves as a natural heat sink, eliminating the need for an internal fan and providing quiet operation. A built-in safety circuit protects the custom battery pack from overcharging, over-discharging or short-circuiting.

Clinicians can perform more than 100 one-minute exams on a fully charged battery. Single-use protective lens covers prevent cross-contamination for less than $1 per patient, minimizing consumable costs.
