Enhanced Dental Product: CariVu Software 2.0 from DEXIS

DEXIS, a KaVo Kerr Group brand, recently released CariVu Software 2.0, the latest software update for the portable caries detection device that uses patented transillumination technology to detect carious lesions.

The software interface has been redesigned with a sleek, modern look and streamlined functionality, according to a press release. It’s also now possible to take and save CariVu images to the patient record with a one-second squeeze of the ring.

For enhanced diagnostic comparison and to monitor changes over time, the software auto-draws an outline of an earlier image of the tooth, making it easier to acquire new images of the same size and orientation. An on-screen indicator provides guidance on whether the lens should be closer to the tooth or farther away, enabling users to quickly achieve clear images. When clinicians need more visual diagnostic data, they can capture short video clips of a lesion by navigating the device tip around the tooth.

Clinicians can use a foot pedal to freeze and save CariVu images, promoting steadier hands and reducing handpiece movement. “Mesial” and “buccal” tagging can be added to captured and saved images, and while in intraoral radiograph mode, users can associate the direction of the live video with the flow of the patient’s arch as well as the corresponding x-ray. Information obtained with the CariVu caries detection device can be stored in DEXIS software with other patient images.
