3D Systems recently launched Jaw in a Day, the latest addition to its Virtual Surgical Planning (VSP) Reconstruction product line.
This patient-specific process makes it possible for surgeons to perform a full jaw reconstruction in one surgery, according to a press release, eliminating months of medical treatment for patients. Traditional dental rehabilitation requires multiple surgeries and care over a six to 12 month time period.
This single surgery jaw and dental reconstruction option is enabled via the company’s VSP Reconstruction service. Surgeons work with engineers from 3D Systems who use CAD/CAM technology to create personalized surgical plans and to design surgical guides, models and instruments. The devices are 3D printed and sterilized for reference and use during the procedure.
The system is designed to save patients time and money while also reducing pain, recovery time, the risk of infection and other complications.
