Ultradent recently filed a complaint against BlueLight Analytics.
In the complaint, Ultradent maintains that the company’s checkMARC system generates false and/or misleading test results for the VALO LED curing light, according to a press release. Based on these results, customers believe their curing lights aren’t functioning properly and should be replaced.
Ultradent’s founder and CEO Dr. Dan E. Fischer says the system compares data collected from the VALO curing light using two different measuring devices, but presents the comparison as if the same device and metrics had been used, which is misleading.
“Simply put, BlueLight is comparing apples to oranges, but telling Ultradent’s customers the checkMARC system is comparing apples to apples,” he said, according to the release.

Ultradent Files Federal Complaint Against BlueLight Analytics In Defense of VALO Curing Light
On May 24, 2016, Ultradent Products, Inc. filed a federal complaint against BlueLight Analytics, Inc., in the United States District Court for the District of Utah. In its complaint, Ultradent asserts that BlueLight’s checkMARC® system generates false and/or misleading test results for Ultradent’s award-winning VALO® LED dental curing light. Based on these misleading test results, Ultradent customers are led to believe that their VALO curing lights are not functioning properly and should be replaced.
“Ultradent takes seriously any actions by third parties to misrepresent Ultradent’s products and mislead our customers,” says Ultradent’s founder and CEO Dr. Dan E. Fischer. “We understand that BlueLight’s checkMARC system compares data collected from our VALO curing lights using two entirely different measuring devices, but presents that comparison as if the same devices and metrics had been used. Simply put, BlueLight is comparing apples to oranges, but telling Ultradent’s customers the checkMARC system is comparing apples to apples.”
Ultradent will continue to work to ensure that its customers, as well as other members of the dental industry, receive accurate and reliable information about the dental curing lights they own and those that are available to them.
