Straumann Implants Fair Well in Independent Peri-Implantitis Study

A recent independent study on peri-implantitis showed the Straumann Tissue Level SLA implants had significantly lower odds ratios for moderate/severe peri-implantitis than the other implant systems evaluated.

Using the national data register of the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, Dr. Jan Derks and colleagues from Gothenburg University in Sweden randomly selected 427 implant patients from a population of about 25, 000 patients, according to a press release. These patients were treated for 9 years previously by more than 800 clinicians. Patients were assessed for typical indicators of peri-implantitis, including bone loss, bleeding and pocket depth around the implants.

Researchers found the extent of moderate/severe peri-implantitis differed between implant systems. Patients treated with other systems had an odds ratio of developing peri-implantitis that was more than three times higher than patients who were treated with Straumann Tissue Level SLA implants.

The results were presented at the 2015 EAO and have been published in the Journal of Dental Research.
