Straumann Expands Dental Implant and Restorative Options

With new products, expansions of existing product lines and a range of other innovations, solutions and services, Straumann looked to provide an option for dentists and dental labs in all tooth replacement situations with its announcements during the 2015 International Dental Show.

Among the new innovations is the Bone Level Tapered (BLT) Implant which makes use of the company’s Roxolid technology and SLActive surface treatment. Available in 3.3, 4.1 and 4.8 mm diameters and 8 to 16 mm lengths, the implants are designed to provide ideal primary stability and flexible surgical protocols, according to a press release. The new BLT implants also are a part of the Pro Arch solution which combines implants, abutments, CAD/CAM frameworks, components and education to help clinicians and labs provide fixed, full-arch restorations.

Also debuting at IDS is an expanded family of Variobase abutments that includes new flexibility with 5.5 mm chimney heights which can be customized for all Straumann implant lines. The Variobase line is also now available for screw- and cement-retained bridges and bars, as well as a new option compatible with CEREC systems.

Among the other innovations announced during the show is a new Patient Pro digital patient education platform, and a new glass ceramic material named etkon n!ce. The material, which will launch in Europe in May, provides a high flexural strength and short milling times, along with simple finishing. It will be available in two stages of crystallization with partially crystalized blocks able to be stained and glazed before final firing, and fully crystalized blocks ready to be seated after milling and finishing.
