New Dental Products: 4D Jaw Motion System and Romexis Smile Design

New Dental Products: 4D Jaw Motion System and Romexis Smile Design

A pair of new innovations from Planmeca aim to help clinicians collect accurate information for diagnosing patients, planning treatments and communicating potential outcomes to patients.

Planmeca 4D Jaw Motion tracking is a cone beam integrated system that tracks, visualizes and analyzes jaw movement in three dimensions and real time, according to a press release. Romexis Smile Design software is an application that uses 2D photos to allow clinicians to design potential smile makeovers, according to a press release.

The 4D Jaw Motion system uses the Planmeca ProFace camera on the ProMax 3D Mid and Max cone beam systems and captures the patient’s jaw movements in real-time and then displays them in Romexis- imaging software. The jaw motion images can be used for immediate diagnostics or recorded for later analysis. The motion capture data can be used for TMD analysis, occlusion verification and more.

Smile Design software can be a standalone application or a module in the Romexis image management platform. The system provides a simple workflow for manipulating the position, shape and width of teeth. Integrated measurement tools allow analysis of the patient’s smile and face, and the outcome is a photorealistic image of the proposed smile makeover. These proposals can serve as patient education and marketing tools, but they are functional as well. The images can be exported to CAD/CAM and orthodontic software platforms to serve as a reference for digital case design.
