CEREC Scans Can Now Be Used with Invisalign Cases

Two leading digital dentistry platforms are connecting as CEREC users will soon be able to submit digital impressions for use with Invisalign clear aligner cases.

Sirona’s CEREC Omnicam digital impression system has been approved for Align Technology’s Invisalign case submission when used with the forthcoming CEREC Ortho Software 1.1, according to press releases from both companies. The CEREC Ortho software is expected to be available this summer.

The new CEREC Invisalign digital workflow starts with a guided scan from the Ortho software using the Omnicam. The case is then sent directly from the CEREC system to Invisalign where the clear aligners are designed and produced. This allows cases to be started faster, and eliminates the need for clinicians to take a physical impression of the patient.

Along with this integration, the two companies will also allow digital impressions from Align Technology’s iTero scanner to be sent directly to dental labs using Sirona’s inLab system.
