Enhanced Dental Product: Dental System 2015 CAD/CAM Software from 3Shape

3Shape launched the annual update of its CAD/CAM software, and Dental System 2015 brings the addition of new tools, digital denture workflows and other improvements.

The improvements to the dental lab software platform are designed to increase efficiency and help labs expand the services they offer, according to a press release. Among the efficiencies in the software is Smile Composer 2.0 which integrates the tools previously found in the software’s Sculpt Toolkit. This allows technicians to add and remove material and automatically connect crowns to the margin line. Another new feature of the software is a module for creating custom positioning guides to ensure accurate positioning when prosthetics are being placed. These guides can be either milled or printed.

An optional new feature that is also available as a stand-alone module, Denture Design provides the tools to digitally design dentures for optimal occlusion and function. The denture workflow starts with a scan of the model or single tray impression. The software can analyze the model for the best tooth selection and placement. Then Smile Composer sets the teeth, and the design can be sent for manufacturing via a range of processes including milling and 3D printing.

Dental System 2015 also features a module allowing the creation of custom impression trays that can be 3D printed on a range of systems. Improvements to the order management system now allow technicians to switch materials and indications during the design process without losing case information.
