Straumann Makes Investment in RODO Medical’s Smileloc System

By purchasing a 12 percent stake in RODO Medical, Straumann is investing in that company’s innovative Smileloc System.

The Smileloc System uses shape memory properties of the nickel-titanium alloy nitinol to affix a crown or other prosthesis to an implant abutment without the need for cement or retaining screws, according to a press release. The system is designed to simplify implant restorations and allows for rapid placement and removal of the prostheses.

While the Smileloc System is not commercially available, initial clinical results are promising and executives from both Straumann and RODO Medical believe the technology has the potential to make a significant impact on the dental implant market.
