 Enhanced Dental Product: CEREC 4.3 Software from Sirona

With a range of new and enhanced features, CEREC 4.3 software from Sirona is designed to make the chairside CAD/CAM system easier and more efficient to use while expanding its indications.

The new software provides increased accuracy of the virtual models created from digital impressions captured by the CEREC Omnicam. These models include greater detail, and the software includes a new feature that guides clinicians to fill in missing data as soon as the model is created. The increased accuracy also makes it easier for the system automatically detect prep margins, making the process of scanning and designing a restoration less time consuming. The improved digital models do not create larger files in the system, according to a press release.

The software also automatically detects and marks undercuts in the prep. This allows clinicians to decide whether to revise the prep, block the undercut when inserting the restoration or rework the restoration after it has been milled. During the restoration design phase, the new software offers an improved virtual articulator for better occlusal design, as well as new tools for shaping and adding texture to anterior restorations.

Another upgrade with the CEREC 4.3 software is the ability of the chairside mill to use carbide instruments to process zirconia and temporary materials. The system also has been designed to provide improved milling for the full range of compatible materials. This includes zirconia abutment blocks for use with the TiBase system which is compatible with a larger number of implant systems.

The final enhancement with the new software is the addition of an integrated “Connect Button” which allows clinicians to send a case to the Sirona Connect platform at any time during the process. This means a case can be started chairside, but then sent to a dental laboratory at any time.
