Solea Laser Wins Gold at 2014 Medical Design Excellence Awards

In recognition of the system’s technological innovation, engineering achievements and industry impact Convergent Dental’s Solea Laser was recognized as a gold award at the 17th annual Medical Design Excellence Awards.

The MDEA competition selects winning medical devices and technologies based on five criteria, innovation, design, patient benefits, business benefits and ability to improve the healthcare industry. The awards competition honors not just the companies behind the products, but recognizes the engineers, designers, clinicians and everyone else involved in bringing innovative medical technologies to the public, according to a press release.

Solea was honored as the first FDA-approved computer-aided CO2 laser for both hard- and soft-tissue dental applications and took the top prize in the Dental Instruments, Equipment and Supplies category. The laser is designed to feel and function like a dental handpiece, to allow dentists to quickly adapt to cutting tissue with a laser instead of a bur.
