PeriRx to Launch Salivary Test for Sjögren’s Syndrome in 2014

A new salivary diagnostic test designed to identify a molecular biomarker for early detection of Sjögren’s Syndrome is on the way from PeriRx before the end of 2014.

A chronic, systemic inflammatory disorder, Sjögren’s Syndrome causes the immune system to attack the body’s moisture-producing glands, leading to dry eyes and mouths and further, more serious complications. The condition has been difficult to diagnose with patients often suffering for years before a doctor identifies the problem as Sjögren’s Syndrome, according to a press release.

The PeriRx Sjögren’s Syndrome Test is a non-invasive technology that will allow dental professionals to take the lead in earlier diagnosis of the condition. The test is based on NIH-funded research following an initial discovery Dr. David Wong of UCLA. The biomarkers used in the test have been validated in multiple large studies.
