Patients Can Help Detect Perio Prevalance

A study published in the Journal of Dental Research found that self-reported measures were able to accurately forecast the periodontitis prevalence in the U.S. adult population.

The study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Periodontology used 8 questions to address gum health, treatment history, loose teeth, bone loss and home care practices. The data from the questions were compared to clinical data and statistical analysis found the self-reporting to be effective at predicting the rate of periodontitis, according to a press release.
