Zimmer Trabecular Metal Dental Implant Wins 2013 MDEA Silver Medal

Zimmer Dental’s Zimmer Trabecular Metal Dental Implant took home a silver medal in the Dental Instruments, Equipment and Supplies category at the 2013 Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA).

The MDEA competition is presented by the Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry as a way to honor innovations in medical product design. The Trabecular Metal Dental Implant was honored due to its unique porous metal mid-section which permits osseoincorporation where bone develops both on the implant surface and into the implant structure, according to a press release.

The three-dimensional, biocompatible Trabecular Metal material is manufactured at Zimmer’s TMT facility in Parsippany, N.J., and has been used in orthopaedic devices for more than 15 years. The metal structure is designed to mimic cancellous bone and provide optimal secondary stability.
