Heraeus Sells Dental Business to Mitsui, New Owners Plan to Keep Business as Usual

Heraeus will sell its dental division Heraeus Dental to Japanese firm Mitsui Chemicals in a recently announced deal that Reuters is reporting includes a sale price of $578 million.

Heraeus cited the changing nature of the dental industry and declining use of precious metals for dental restorations as the reason it is selling the Heraeus Dental business, according to a press release from the company. While the dental business remains profitable with €360 million in revenues reported for 2012, its parent company decided the dental industry did not fit with its core focus on precious metal technologies.

Mitsui intends to keep all 20 Heraeus Dental locations and the company’s employees on board after the sale is completed.
