Straumann Updates its CARES CAD/CAM System and Opens Up to New Partners

Straumann announced a number of upgrades to its CARES CAD/CAM software platform as well as other innovations during the International Dental Show in Cologne, Germany.

Straumann CARES Visual 8.0 completes the company’s integration of the Dental Wings Open Software platform into its CAD/CAM solution, providing dental labs with an open digital workflow that can be used to produce a range of prosthetics through either the CARES validated workflow or alternative milling processes, according to a press release.

The new software is designed to streamline the design and fabrication of both implant- and tooth-borne restoration, and includes features such as CARES X-Stream which enables the design of a custom abutment and a corresponding full-contour crown from a single scan. New restorative options include the CARES Variobase hybrid abutment and screw-retained bridges and bars.

Straumann also announced new partnerships with 3M ESPE and Innovation MediTech. The 3M partnership allows clinicians using the 3M True Definition Scanner to send digital impression files directly to labs using Straumann CARES 8.0. The partnership with Innovation MediTech allows labs to handle implant cases completely digitally with MediTech producing a resin model for use in the final finishing steps.

Additionally, Straumann announced a pair of new products. The company’s new zerion HT is a translucent zirconia available in four shades. Additionally, the new TiBrush is used to simplify the process of debridement of implant surfaces affected by peri-implantitis.
