The Top 10 Dental Products of 2016

The 2016 year in review wraps up with our final top 10 list counting down the most popular products in the Dentalcompare Product Directory. Some of the products on this list are popular because they’re state-of-the-art technologies. Others are tried and true systems people rely on, and continue to invest in. Still, the exact reason each of these products proved so popular remains up for some debate.

With that in mind, here are your Top 10 dental products for 2016:

X-Pod Wireless X-ray Handheld Digital Radiography System from MyRay10. X-Pod Wireless X-ray Handheld Digital Radiography System from MyRay – Digital x-ray sensors are the most popular category in the directory, so it makes sense to see some of them on this list. While most sensors look similar—a thin black rectangle with rounded corners and a cord—the X-Pod stands out. Sure the sensor part looks the same as others, but the attached viewing screen makes this one something unique in a much viewed category.

PlanScan Intraoral Scanner9. PlanScan Intraoral Scanner from Planmeca – Digital impressions remain an exciting technology and this system from Planmeca continues to stand out for its ease of use, robust applications and its ability to work within its native CAD/CAM system or to connect to other open systems.

SuniRay 2 Digital Intraoral Sensor8. SuniRay 2 Digital Intraoral Sensor from Suni Medical Imaging – There is more than one way to stand out from the crowd. The SuniRay 2 looks like the other sensors around, but with low radiation requirements for image capture and an innovative try-before-you-buy option available, this sensor proved to be the most popular on the site.

CS 35007. CS 3500 from Carestream Dental – Another open architecture digital impression scanner finds its way to this list. While Carestream’s newest scanner, the CS 3600, continues to gain popularity, the first generation system proved to be the most popular intraoral scanner on the site this year. Sometimes people like to stick with the original.

NV Microlaser Dental Diode Laser6. NV Microlaser Dental Diode Laser from DenMat – Soft tissue lasers continue to draw lots of attention and this is the first of three to make the top product list. A handheld, pen-style laser device, the NV remains a popular option because of its simplicity and ease of use.

SOL Portable Diode Laser5. SOL Portable Diode Laser from DenMat – Here’s another diode system people are paying attention to. The more robust system in DenMat’s stable, the SOL offers more power and versatility than the handheld NV. This is a full-function diode laser that holds its place with the top systems in the category.

IRM ZOE Intermediate Restorative Material4. IRM ZOE Intermediate Restorative Material from Dentsply Sirona – The popularity of this long-term temporary material is something of a mystery, but it might be that it’s designed for unique situations. When you have a patient who needs a restoration to last longer than a temp but shorter than a more permanent solution, you need an option, and IRM ZOE is a popular choice.

EPIC 10 Diode Laser3. EPIC 10 Diode Laser from BIOLASE – The most popular laser system on the site continues the theme of originals outshining the upgrades. BIOLASE has released the EPIC X and more recently the EPIC Pro updates to this soft tissue laser line, but the original, high-power laser system with a huge range of applications remains the people’s choice.

MouthWatch Intraoral Camera from MouthWatch LLC2. MouthWatch Intraoral Camera from MouthWatch LLC – Intraoral cameras are great to have on hand, and the MouthWatch camera is incredibly popular because it is by far the most economical option available. But while the camera has a small sticker price, it doesn’t sacrifice quality imaging, and the company is developing ways this imaging system can be put to use for the emerging arena of Teledentistry.

CollaPlug1. CollaPlug Absorbable Collagen Wound Dressing from Zimmer Biomet – The inimitable CollaPlug continues its reign atop this list. A simple material for filling extraction sockets, this product attracts views year after year after year. The exact reason for its popularity might never be known, but it shows no signs of fading any time soon.
