J. Morita Foundation Case Study: Accelerating Bone Growth Prior to Placing Implants

Case Background - This 31-year-old male suffered a vertical fracture of an upper bicuspid and the tooth had to be extracted.

Case Treatment - Foundation bone augmentation material (J. Morita) was placed for to maintain the alveolar bone in the socket for the purpose of placing an implant. The material was also chosen because it can stimulate the bone to grow in at a faster rate.

The Foundation material is in place. It is radiolucent. At 6 weeks post-extraction, the socket is filling with bone.

At 8 weeks post-extraction, the osteotomy is performed to place the implant. The small size of the socket decreased the time it took for the socket to fill with bone.

The implant is in place at 8 weeks post-extraction.

A radiograph at 8 weeks post-extraction confirms that there is adequate bone to support the implant.

Conclusion- If the extraction socket is not large, as in the case with this bicuspid, bone augmentation to preserve alveolar bone can be done quite rapidly.
