Cone Beam Imaging: Technology Improves Communication

Cone Beam Imaging: Technology Improves Communication

Cone beam technology provides all of the functions and details needed for implant planning and placement--but even more than that, it enhances communications between implant surgeons, referring doctors, and patients. Referring doctors appreciate the fact that this type of technology keeps them in the loop regarding patients’ treatment. My system (GXCB-500™) enables me, as the implant surgeon, to freely share cases (scans and the imaging software) with the referring dentist either in print or electronically via email or CD. With this information at their disposal, referrers are instantly privy to information garnered from the treatment step. Cone beam is definitely a relationship-builder in that aspect.

Patient communication is also elevated to a higher level. After seeing the 3D scans of their condition, patients are able to visualize their own anatomy more effectively. Armed with the additional confidence that comes with this knowledge, they are much more likely to accept treatment quickly. With CBCT scans, the patient can see nerve canals and deteriorated bone structure with no distortions for more exact treatment planning dimensions, so by their next appointment, the implant process can begin. The efficiency and speed of cone beam technology facilitates the flow of appointments and faster treatment completion, eliminating the need for additional imaging and consultation appointments. Patients appreciate the time savings—they don’t have to repeatedly schedule time off from work or school, and those with transportation issues don’t have to bother friends or relatives for extra trips to my office.

Just as education is important for the patient, continuing education is important for everyone in our field. Informational programs, like the 3rd International Congress on 3D Imaging keeps dentist on top of new technologies that can create better relationships and result in a better business.
