Stone hardeners and glazes are used to create sturdier dental models and to protect them after they have been poured. Whether applied during the gypsum mixing process such as in the case of hardeners, or painted on after the model has been poured as in the case of glazes, these materials make dental models stronger and more able to hold up and retain their accuracy while being used to fabricate a dental restoration. When using a hardener, be sure to apply the proper mix with the gypsum. When using a glaze be sure to apply a thin, even layer in order to maintain the model's proper dimensions.
