A rectangular collimator reduces the amount of radiation to the patient. Rectangular collimators decrease scatter radiation leading to improved image clarity as well as decreasing the amount of radiation the patient is exposed to. Rectangular collimators should easily slide on to the cone of any x-ray device, installing in seconds. Rectangular collimators should be NCRP compliant. Rectangular collimation systems allow less scatter radiation into the patient’s tissues than round collimation systems. If your practice is still using round collimators, be sure to invest in a rectangular collimator. Be sure the vendor is reputable and stands behind their product.
