If there is anything exciting about dentistry, it’s that it refuses to stay stagnant. We are in a field that is constantly developing new and exciting products that make life easier for us, and treatment better for our patients.

On Dentalcompare, we just posted a new video on one of these types of products. In full disclosure, I have not had a chance yet to try the product in my own office, but I love the thought that went into it. TheraCal LC, manufactured by Bisco, is a light cured resin useful as a liner or in pulp-capping cases. It is dispensed directly from a syringe like a flowable composite, so unlike glass ionomers, there is no mixing needed. There is no eugenol in it as in the case of IRM, so you can build up composite material directly over it without worrying about adhesive bond strengths. Plus, it acts like a resin in that it shows up well on xrays, and doesn’t break down the way dycal or calcium hydroxide pastes would do. Integrated tri-calcium silicate means it still allows release of calcium to help form seconday dentin.

Easier to use? Check. Still does what all the other traditional products do? Check. That is the progress we like to see in dentistry, and that is the type of product news we will continue to bring to you on Dentalcompare. Check out the video for yourself below.
