In what appears to be an ongoing trend, researches have found that plaque is linked to an increased risk of dying from cancer. In this news story a study was conducted that looked at a random group of individuals in Stockholm. Of those that developed cancer, those that had dental plaque had at least a 50% higher risk of dying from the disease. This is after they removed all other risk factors, including age and other habits.
While this study did not seek to prove whether or not dental plaque causes cancer, it is certainly eye opening that yet again oral health plays a major role in over all wellness for the body. One comment on the news story indicates that Vitamin D may be the contributing factor to this phenomenon.
