We have all seen them, drinks with bright colors and “edgy” logos. Everyone from school children to the working man can be seen drinking them, and they even sponsor their own sporting events. Energy drinks – with funny names like Monster, Rockstar, Red Bull, etc. have now been shown to eat away at teeth more than previously thought.
A new study from the Academy of General Dentistry found that within 5 days the sugar and acid found in energy drinks can start to dissolve enamel. Once that occurs decay of the tooth begins almost immediately. Alarmingly younger children appear to be taking up the habit of energy drinks and it shows.
If you do decide to drink the occasional enegry concoction, dentists recommend rinsing with water afterwards and waiting at least an hour before brushing.
