Most dental visits involve little risk to patients or clinicians, but medical emergencies can happen at any time. The risk of such emergencies increases during procedures involving anesthetics or sedation, so it’s a good idea for a practice to be prepared. Having Emergency Dental Equipment such as Automated External Defibrillators, Dental Emergency Kits or Oral Airways on hand can, in the most extreme situations, save a patient’s or a staff member’s life. If a practice does have Emergency Dental Equipment on hand, it’s important to make sure everything is up to date and regularly tested so it’s ready when needed.
